DiRado and Ditto Set Meet Records on Final Day in Long Beach

Nov. 20, 2010

LONG BEACH, Calif. / TUCSON, Ariz. -- Maya DiRado (200 back) won her third race in as many days and Kelsey Ditto (1650 free) also set a meet record to highlight the final day of the Arena Invite. Also winning for the Cardinal was Kate Dwelley (100 free), Liz Smith (200 breast) and Andie Taylor (200 fly) on the final day in the International City.

Overall Stanford finished first in 16 of 18 events over the three-day event, set to replicate the schedule of March's NCAA Championships. Stanford won four of five relays, including Saturday's finale, the 400 free relay (3:15.39), Stanford's ninth meet record.

DiRado's time of 1:52.04 bettered Julia Smit's meet record last year (1:52.83) and followed the freshman's wins in the 200 and 400 individual medleys over the last two days.

Ditto bettered her 2009 record of 16:12.25 with a mark of 16:08.34.

In the 200 free, Dwelley led four Cardinal in the top-four pacing the field with a B standard time of 48.58, ahead of Betsy Webb and Sam Woodward.

Taylor, also a freshman, won for the second time, leading the 200 fly with a B standard of 1:56.86. In the 200 breast, Smith produced an A standard of 2:09.41.

In the consolation finals of the one-meter at the Wildcat Invite in Tucson, Meg Hostage was second in the consolation finals and tenth overall with a  score of 267.00, while freshman Stephanie Phipps was 13th overall with a score of 235.30. Phipps just missed the top-8 by three points finishing ninth in the preliminaries with a score of 254.20.

Stanford swimming is back in action in January.
