Berkeley, Calif. - Stanford track and field completed the second day of action at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Both teams had a large contingent of athletes compete with great results, particularly in the sprints.
The Cardinal women were led by Katerina Stefanidi who took the meet title in the pole vault. Stefanidi vaulted 13-9 ¼ to top Elizabeth Norvell of Sacramento State who was the runner-up.
In the sprints, Hannah Farley earned a new personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 55.94. Joy O'Hare (55.57) and Kala Stepter (58.61) also competed in the event. In the invitational section of the 100 meters, Carissa Levingston placed fifth with a time of 11.70.
Arantxa King led the Cardinal in the long jump with a season-best leap of 20-10 ¾. Brittni Dixon-Smith (19-11 ½) and Karynn Dunn (19-2) also competed. Dunn achieved her season best. In the triple jump, Whitney Liehr placed fifth with a mark of 39-4.
Dunn also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, but fell just short of the final after running a time of 14.58. Tiffany Tillett also competed in the event, finishing with a season-best time of 14.64.
In the middle-distances, Madeline Duhon led the way, finishing sixth in the invitational section of the 800 meters with a career-best time of 2:09.06. Georgia Griffin led the Cardinal women in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:27.76. Madeleine O'Meara (4:30.34), Victoria Pennings (4:34.52), Kristin Reese (4:47.40) and Emma Miller-Bedell (4:48.84) also ran the 1,500 meters.
The women finished the day by running their fastest 4x400-meter relay of the year in a time of 3:42.68. Farley, Dixon-Smith, King and Levingston combined of the effort.
The men were led by a pair of competitors in the invitational section of the 100 meters. Daniel Belch led Stanford, placing fourth with a time of 10.66. Just behind Belch was his teammate Tyrone McGraw who placed fifth with a time of 10.72.
In the open sections of the 100, Amaechi Morton continued to work on his speed, running a time of 10.81 to advance to the final where he followed that up with a 10.78. Morton, who is a usual 400 hurdler, ran one of the fastest 200-meter times in school history on Friday. Ryan Fisicaro also competed in the 100, running 10.96.
At 200 meters, Mark Mueller competed in the invitational section, finishing third with a time of 21.71. At 400 meters, freshman Spencer Chase earned a new collegiate best with a time of 48.06. Durell Coleman (48.42) and Zach Chandy (48.93) also competed in the event.

The men's sprinters competed the day by running the eighth-fastest 4x400-meter relay in school history. Chandy, Coleman, Chase and Morton combined to run a time of 3:09.41.
In the middle-distances, Dylan Ferris led Stanford with his runner-up finish in the 800 meters. Ferris ran a time of 1:49.34, which was off his season best. In the mile, Andrew Berberick ran a time of 4:03.19, which converts to a career-best 3:46.59 in the 1,500 meters. Tyler Valdes (4:13.50) and Ryan Valdes (4:17.62) also competed in the mile. Brendan Gregg (3:49.69) and Benjamin Johnson (3:53.17) ran the 1,500 meters in tune-ups for the longer distances that they normally compete.
In the pole vault, Casey Roche matched his season best with a vault of 16-9 ¼, but had to settle for second place.
In addition to the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, Stanford sent a small group of throwers to the Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego. The Cardinal got a pair of career bests from Carter Wells as he tossed 161-11 in the discus and 203-1 in the hammer. For the women, Jaynie Goodbody achieved a season best in the hammer with a toss of 192-11.
Next up for Stanford is the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field on May 1. The annual meet brings some of the top athletes from around the world to compete in the Saturday evening distance carnival.
