AUSTIN, Texas-- Stanford's Brent Eichenseer finished fifth in the one-meter, and fellow junior Meg Hostage was seventh in the three-meter on Friday at the Zone E Regional Championships.
Eichenseer scored his second-straight fifth place finish at the regional championships, in the one-meter, tallying 699.45 points. Harrison Jones of USC won the event with a score of 803.90. Eichenseer was also fifth after the preliminary round amongst 24 divers with a score of 343.20. The top seven divers from the three days of competition move onto nationals.
Eichenseer scored two 8.5's and two more 8.0's on the fourth of his six finals dives, a reverse 2 ½ somersault tuck, for a score of 70.50 . He also scored 64.50 points on a forward 3 ½ somersault tuck.
Hostage finished seventh in the three-meter, and will need a strong finish in the platform to secure one of six spots in the NCAA Championships from the West. Hostage won the platform at Zones as a freshman.
Hostage's seventh place finish on the second of three days, was highlighted by a 54.00 on a back 2 ½ somersault pike. Despite four of six dives in the 50's, she tallied a 33.60 on her fourth dive and a 44.40 on her first dive.
Also competing in the three-meter was Carmen Stellar, who was 21st with a score of 254.80 in the preliminaries.
All three divers will be a part of the platform competition on Saturday to close out the meet. The top seven men and top six women will advance to the NCAA Championships starting on March 25 and 18, respectively.
