Franklin, Tenn. - The Stanford women's golf team got their season underway on Friday with the first round of the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship. The Cardinal shot a team score of 25-over-par 313 to sit in 17th place. Oklahoma State leads the tournament with a 2-under-par score of 286.

Behind the Cowboys in the team standings are a trio of Pac-10 teams, UCLA at 1-under-par 287, USC at even-par 288, and Arizona State at 1-over-par 289 who are within striking distance of the lead.

The Cardinal were led by a pair of freshmen, Lila Barton and Sydney Burlison. Barton shot a 4-over-par round of 76 to sit in a tie for 46th place, while Burlison's score of 5-over-par 77 places her tied for 52nd.

Also competing for Stanford were Mari Chun, Rebecca Durham, and Ki-Shui Liao who each shot a round of 8-over-par 80. Their scores placed them in a tie for 72nd with two other golfers.

Defending individual champion, Amanda Blumenherst of Duke shares the early lead with Candace Schepperle of Auburn after both shot a 5-under-par round of 67 on Friday. They lead Sydnee Michaels of UCLA who is alone in third place with a round of 4-under-par 68. In all, 22 golfers shot rounds of par or better on the opening day of the tournament.

The second round of the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship begins tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 27 at 8:00 am EST or 5:00 am PST. The Cardinal will look to improve on their first round and make their way up the leader board.
