Stanford Finishes Sixth At Pac-10 Championships

Palos Verdes, Calif.- Stanford women's golf completed the Pac-10 Championships on Wednesday in sixth place. The Cardinal moved up one spot on Wednesday with a round of 19-over-par 303 for a three-day total of 61-over-par 913. The Cardinal finished sixth for the second consecutive year.

USC took home the Pac-10 Championship by dominating play on their home course. The Trojans three-day total of 8-over-par 860 gave them a 26 stroke victory over second place UCLA. USC placed all five of their golfers in the top eight to run away with the title.

The Bruins who led after the first round had to settle for second with a score of 34-over-par 886 for the tournament. Arizona State held on for third place with a score of 39-over-par 891.

Rounding out the top-5 were Arizona and California who tied for fourth with a three-day total of 56-over-par 908.

Paola Moreno of USC took home the individual title by being the only player to finish in red figures. Her three-day total was 1-under-par 212. Moreno's final round of 4-under-par 67 moved her up from a tie for fifth to take the Pac-10 medalist honor.

The 2008 Pac-10 runner-up was Anna Nordqvist of Arizona State who finished at 3-over-par 216 to finish four strokes off the lead.

The top Stanford finisher was who finished in a tie for tenth with a score of 10-over-par 223. Wang surged up the leaderboard on Wednesday by firing a 1-under-par 70, one of just three red numbers posted all day. The round of 70 was the best of the season for Wang who also recorded her first top-10 finish of the season.

After finishing third overall last season struggled on Wednesday, firing an 8-over-par 79. Her 3-day total of 16-over-par 229 placed her in a tie for 22nd. It was her sixth top-25 finish of the season.

Stanford's second best round on Wednesday went to who fired a round of 4-over-par 75. Her 3-day total of 17-over-par 230 placed her in a tie for 26th overall.

Rounding out play for Stanford were freshmen and who fired a pair of 8-over-par 79's on Wednesday. Miller finished in a tie for 30th with a 3-day total of 19-over-par 232, while Durham finished 34th with a score of 21-over-par 234.

Stanford will now await its fate when the 2008 NCAA Women's Golf Regionals are announced on Monday, April 28. The regionals will be at three different sites from Thurs.-Sat., May 8-10.
