STANFORD, Calif.- Stanford successfully defended its title, shooting a 591 (300-291) to finish 23-over-par and lead the field at the Peg Barnard Invitational.
The Cardinal finished with a four stroke victory over second place Washington who shot a 595 (297-298). In third place was Oregon State with a score of 599 (303-296).
The Cardinal were led by Angela King who shot a 1-under-par round of 70 on Saturday. Her two-day total of 1-over-par 143 was good for second place overall, just one stroke off the lead.
The medalist honors went to Karinn Dickinson of Washington who shot an even par 71, her second consecutive round of par.
Finishing in a tie for third was Mari Chun after a 3-over-par round of 74 on Saturday. Chun's two-day total was 4-over-par 146.
Also in the top ten for Stanford was freshman Rebecca Durham who finished in a tie for seventh with a two-day total of 7-over-par 149. It was the first top ten finish of Durham's young career at Stanford.
The other scoring golfers for Stanford were Piper Miller and Catherina Wang who tied for 27th with a score of 11-over par 153. The duo shot identical 75's on Saturday to help Stanford grab the team title.
The two Stanford individuals, Ki-Shui Liao and Saana Rapakko tied for 43rd with scores of 16-over-par 158. Liao had the highlight of the day when she made a hole-in-one on the eighth hole.
Stanford's win was the fourth since the turn of the century at the Peg Barnard Invitational. In addition to last year the Cardinal won in 2001 and 2004.
The completion of the Peg Barnard Invitational concludes the regular season for Stanford. They will next compete Mon-Wed., Apr. 21-23 at the Pac-10 Championships in Palos Verdes, Calif.
