STANFORD, Calif.- After the opening day of competition at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash., Stanford stands in third place overall after shooting a 16-over-par 304.
Paving the way for the Cardinal is junior Mari Chun, who holds down third place following a 1-under-par 71. That mark is just one stroke off the pace of co-leaders Belen Mozo of USC and Anna Nordqvist of Arizona State.
Sophomore Angela King, making her 2007-08 debut, is tied for 12th overall after shooting a 4-over-par 76 in the first round.
Sophomore Catherina Wang is tied for 20th overall, firing a 5-over-par 77 while junior Ki-Shui Liao checks in 41st after an 8-over-par 80.
Freshman Rebecca Durham shot a 9-over-par 81 and is tied for 51st.
USC shot an 8-over-par 296 and leads the tournament, followed by Arizona State with a 13-over-par 301. Stanford is third, followed by California and Arizona in a tie for fourth at 305.
