On today's game
"Until we can match up physically, we will continue to make it hard on ourselves to have a chance to compete. We just have to keep chipping away and get better in the areas we need to improve in."
On the first quarter
"It's really a combination. You would like to stop them and get off the field. When we were down in the red zone with a short field, they knew what we were going to do. We could not sustain drives. You really can't spend too much time dwelling on it. You stay in there and keep on fighting."
On looking ahead
"Right now, we just need to slow the game down and play with the right mindset in order to give us a chance. We are capable of playing `no-turnover' games. And when we do, as proven in the past, we'll give ourselves a better chance to be successful. But a `no-turnover' game and a `non-physical' game, we've got no chance. We have to find a way to be physical with our opponent and match up."
On week-to-week improvement
"I don't think we have to be perfect. I think you have to be in the right spot at the right time. Sometimes though, we are not even in the right area. You can't have 10 guys doing it right and one guy not being where he is supposed to be, whether its offense, defense or special teams."

On his overall thoughts
"We dug ourselves and the defense a hole by putting Washington State on the field for basically 15 minutes of the first quarter. You can't win football games that way. And a lot of that starts with the offense."
On Stanford's current state
"I consider myself a very optimistic person. I've been through a lot worse than this. With the kind of talent we have on this team, it's just a matter of time before we get it together, but it's going to take all 11 guys on offense and defense."

"When you look at the big picture, an 0-4 record can get anybody down. We just have to narrow our focus and concentrate on the next week. It never gets old; you just have to keep playing for the next week."

Opening Statement
"Defensively, we played a great first quarter; we held them to three yards. Offensively, with two fumbles, we kept trying to keep them in the game. As I've said before, there is no such thing as an ugly win, and I mean it. It's a Pac-10 win against a quality opponent."
On Stanford
"They're a young team, and they'll get better. Once you control the front then you've got a chance, and they've got some young kids up front on their defense, so we were able to run the ball. We kept our poise and a win is a win."
On Mkristo Bruce's school record five sacks
"He manhandled those guys; he's just very tenacious. He works very hard."
On his team's confidence
"Well, we're not confident yet. We've got to stop laying the ball on the one-foot line; we can't make those kinds of mistakes."
