Stanford has a long and storied history of athletes who have excelled in two sports, a trend that continued on March 22 at the Texas Relays in Austin. There, three current Cardinal football players comprised three-fourths of Stanford's 4x400 relay team that not only took first place, but recorded the third best time in school history and the fastest time on The Farm since 1978.
Junior Nick Sebes, sophomore Gerren Crochet and freshman T.J. Rushing teammed with senior Milton Little to post a time of 3:07.77. The three football players are currently taking time off from track as they participate in Spring Football Practices, which began April 2 and conclude with the Spring Game on April 26. They will return to track at the conclusion of spring football drills.
Sebes and Crochet are currently competing for playing time at wide receiver for the Cardinal football team while Rushing, a true freshman who lettered as the team's No. 3 cornerback in 2002, will also play an integral role for Stanford in 2003.
The 3:07.77 was the best 4x400 time on The Farm since a 3:06.6 was posted in 1978.
Other Cardinal football players competing or are expected to compete in track this year include WR Jay Goff (multi-events), , WR Dan Knickerbocker (hurdles), WR Chris Ryan (sprints), DE Will Svitek (throws), CB Stanley Wilson (sprints) and FS Timi Wusu (multi-events).
