Stanford, Calif. - Sixth-ranked Arizona State edged the No. 3 Stanford women's softball team, 1-0, today at the Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium in a conference matchup. The Cardinal are now 35-11 on the year, 4-8 in the Pac-10 while the Sun Devils improve to 37-11, 7-4 in league play.
Stanford has not scored a run in its last two games and only one run over the last 21 innings.
ASU scored the only run of the game in the top of the sixth on a singe by shortstop Kara Brun to score second baseman Missy Hixon.
The Cardinal only managed two hits on the day - singles by Cassi Brangham and Jessica Allister. Stanford left eight runners on base for the game.
The Cardinal left runners in scoring position in the second, third and fourth innings.
Junior Tori Nybery took the loss for the Cardinal, allowing only four hits over seven innings with five strikeouts. Sun Devils pitcher Erica Beach picked up her second win this weekend, pitching six shutout innings while scattering two hits.
Stanford will try to get back on the winning track with a non-conference doubleheader against Sacramento State on Wednesday, April 24 at the Smith Family Stadium.
