Stanford improves to 3-0, 1-0 in the Pac-10. USC falls to 1-3 and 0-2 in conference. It's the second year in a row that USC has started its conference season 0-2.

It's the first 1-3 start for USC since 1961, when John McKay was in his second season.

It's the Cardinal's first 3-0 start since 1986.

The Trojans have lost their three games by a total of 11 points.

Stanford has now beaten USC three straight times, the first time it has done so since 1954-56 and the fourth time overall in the 80-game series.

Stanford's 21-0 halftime lead was the largest halftime lead by a USC opponent since Penn State led the Trojans 35-0 at the half in 1994 (Penn State went on to win, 38-14).

Of the seven touchdowns scored by USC's offense this season, Sultan McCullough has six of them, including five by rushing.

McCullough had just 32 yards on 16 carries for USC. Since he's been a starter, the Trojans are now 0-8 in games when McCullough rushes fewer than 20 times (they are 6-2 when he carries 20 times or more and 4-0 when he carries 25+ times).

USC held the potent Stanford offense, which had been averaging 44.5 points and 470 yards per game in total offense to 21 points and 397 yards. The last time USC's defense gave up over 400 yards was against Stanford last season (421).

Kris Richard's 65-yard touchdown return of a blocked field goal was USC's first TD off a blocked field goal since Jerald Henry returned one 60 yards for a touchdown against California in 1994.

Safety DeShaun Hill snagged this third career interception in the third quarter.

After intercepting only seven passes last season, USC's defense already has four in 2001.

USC's defense has given up only 17 points in the second half of games this entire season. Conversely, the Trojan offense has scored only 20 points in the first half all season.

Kevin Arbet had a career-best 47-yard punt return in the third quarter.

With his team-best six catches, Kareem Kelly moves past Billy Miller into fifth place on the all-time USC receiving chart with 129.

Stanford's Luke Powell caught four passes for a game-high 124 yards and one touchdown.
