Marcus Guttman enters his fourth season on The Farm, arriving ahead of the 2023-24 season. After serving as Director of Operations for his first two seasons, Guttmann joined Paul A. Violich Director of Women’s Swimming Chris Lindauer's staff in August 2025.
In 2026, Guttmann helped guide the Stanford program to a national runner-up finish, earning six individual NCAA titles between Lucy Bell, Ellie Cole, and Torri Huske. Coaching alongside fellow first-year staff members Lindauer and Annie Lazor, the NCAA team silver marked the program's best finish in a head coach’s debut season since 1989, when Richard Quick won the national championship in his first year on The Farm.
Before his time at Stanford, Guttmann spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Hawai'i, serving under three head coaches, including Dan Schemmel, who currently serves as The Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming.Â
Guttmann's previous experience also includes four seasons of coaching at the club level with Badger Aquatics Club from 2023-16.
A native of Albuquerque, N.M., Guttmann graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science
