Prior to Stanford
- Played at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrence Township, New Jersey for head coach Napoleon Sykes
- A top-50 defensive end by both ESPN and on3, ranked as the best defensive end prospect in New Jersey by on3
- A consensus top-30 player in New Jersey, ranked as high as sixth in the state by on3
- Played at the varsity level for five years at three different high schools (Pittston Area, St. Thomas More, The Lawrenceville School)
- Was a captain as a junior for head coach Ernest Anderson at St. Thomas More
- Also played tight end throughout his prep career and modeled his game after Rob Gronkowski and George Kittle
- Earned All-State honors as a sophomore at Pittston Area where he caught 17 passes at tight end and recorded five sacks and two forced fumbles on defense
- Earned Defensive MVP honors at the Under Armour Next Camp in New Jersey
