MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 3 Cardinal moved to 3-0 on the season today, taking down No. 9 Pepperdine 14-6 in Malibu. Freshman Dimitris Chatzis set a high-water mark for Stanford this season, scoring six goals in the victory.
Connor Ohl opened up the scoring for the game, finding the back of the net on a breakaway just over four minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead. On the ensuing possession for the Waves, Bernardo Herzer saved a penalty to hold onto the early lead.
Chatzis added another goal two minutes later, doubling the lead. The Card held the lead into the first break, thanks in no small part to Herzer’s five saves.
James Rozolis-Hill added a third with six minutes to go in the second quarter, but Pepperdine’s first response came just over a minute later to make it 3-1. Chatzis and Rozolis-Hill answered right back, each scoring in the next two minutes to push the lead back to 5-1.
Chatzis added his two more scores in the final minute of the half, pushing the advantage to 7-1 at the half.

The Waves opened up the second half with a pair of goals to slash the lead to 7-3, but again the Cardinal was able to answer. Rozolis-Hill’s third goal of the game and Kai Kaneko’s first pushed it back to a six-goal lead at 9-3. Guido Leonardi’s first goal of the day and a Pepperdine answer made it a 10-4 game heading into the fourth.
Stanford kept pouring it on in the fourth quarter, with Chatzis scoring twice more to bring his total to six on the day, and Rozolis-Hill adding his fourth. Nic Austen added a late score as well, making for a 14-6 final.
Chatzis’ six goals on the day are the most by a Cardinal this season, giving him nine on the year to sit second on the team. Just ahead of him is Rozolis-Hill, who’s now scored multiple goals in all three games this season to own 10 total goals.
Herzer finished with another strong outing, allowing just five goals and stopping nine shots. The senior added in an assist and three steals to round out the performance.
