SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – In its first meeting since 2014, No. 8 Stanford defeated Santa Clara, 25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21, Friday, in the SLO Classic at Mott Athletics Center.
Stanford (6-3) hit .307 as a team while holding Santa Clara (4-8) to a .175 clip. The Cardinal registered 12.0 blocks, 65 digs and six aces as it improved to 29-1 all-time against the Broncos.
Outside hitter Julia Blyashov led the team with 15 kills, 12 digs, two blocks and an ace, while opposite Jordyn Harvey added 12 kills, 12 digs, three blocks and a pair of aces. It was the fourth double-double of the season for Blyashov and the first for Harvey.
Setter Logan Parks controlled the offense with 41 assists and had six digs, three blocks and an ace. Libero Spencer Etzler tied for a match-high with 18 digs and tallied three assists and an ace.
Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew hit .524 with 11 kills on 21 errorless swings and posted six blocks. Sophomore Kaci Demaria earned the start at outside hitter and matched her career-high with 13 kills and had four blocks.
Freshman middle blocker Ella Andrews chipped in with four kills and six blocks. Defensive specialist Malyssa Cawa recorded career-highs of 11 digs, three assists and an ace. Senior defensive specialist Koko Kirsch finished with a season-best five digs.
Santa Clara, which is coached by former Cardinal assistants Erin Lindsey and Gretchen Reinert, was led by opposite Morgan Hayes who had a match-high 18 kills, 13 digs and two aces.
Stanford closes out its nonconference slate on Sunday against Cal Poly. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
