SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Senior Jordyn Harvey matched her career-high with 18 kills, but No. 8 Stanford fell to No. 12 Arizona State, 19-25, 21-25, 24-26, Thursday, in the opening match of the SLO Classic at Mott Athletics Center.
Stanford drops to 5-3 overall, while Arizona State improves to 8-2 on the season. The Cardinal hit .255 and posted 5.0 blocks and a pair of aces. The Sun Devils turned in a .316 attack percentage and finished with 8.0 blocks and four aces.
Harvey, an opposite from Salt Lake City, recorded her 18 kills on a .455 attack percentage to go with four digs. Outside hitter Julia Blyashov added 10 kills on .391 hitting, eight digs and a block.
Stanford is now 79-9 all-time against Arizona State. The Sun Devils hit .400 in the opening set and registered 22 kills in the final frame alone.
Setter Logan Parks controlled the offense with 33 assists and notched eight digs, three blocks and a kill. Libero Spencer Etzler collected a team-best 10 digs and had one of Stanford’s two aces.
Middle blockers Lizzy Andrew and Ella Andrews combined for eight kills and four blocks.
Arizona State was led by outside hitter Aniya Clinton, who had 15 kills on .522 hitting, while Una Vajagic finished with a double-double of 15 kills and a match-high 14 digs.
Stanford returns to action on Friday against Santa Clara at Mott Athletics Center. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
