PITTSBURGH – No. 5 Stanford defeated No. 15 Kansas, 27-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-21, in the final match of the Opening Spike Classic, Sunday, at the Petersen Events Center.
Stanford (2-0) hit .239 as a team, while holding Kansas (0-2) to a .164 clip. Sunday marked the first meeting between Stanford and Kansas in women’s volleyball.
Outside hitter Julia Blyashov led the team with 14 kills and 14 digs, while outside hitter Ipar Kurt added 13 kills, five digs and three blocks.
Setter Logan Parks dished out 41 assists to go with 10 digs, two kills, two aces and two blocks. Libero Spencer Etzler racked up a match-high 18 digs.
Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew hit .409 with 10 kills on 22 swings with just one error, while Erika Sayer had five kills and four blocks. Opposite Jordyn Harvey chipped in with eight kills, two blocks and ace.
Kansas was led by opposite Taylor Stanley who recorded 21 kills, eight digs, five blocks and two aces.
