Looking Back at 2025

Co-ACC champions, Stanford made 44th postseason appearance

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford capped off the 2025 season with a 29-5 overall record and was co-champions of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with an 18-2 mark. The Cardinal made its 44th NCAA postseason appearance in 45 seasons, advancing to its 22nd regional semifinal since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1998.

Stanford produced three AVCA All-Americans with outside hitter Elia Rubin earning her second consecutive first-team accolades. Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew secured her first career honor, landing on the second team, while setter Logan Parks earned honorable mention status. he selections brought Stanford's total AVCA All-America award count to 121 honors spread over 50 players. The Cardinal has produced multiple All-Americans in the same season in 20 of the past 21 seasons.

Rubin was also tabbed the AVCA Pacific Region Player of the Year and a semifinalist for AVCA Player of the Year. Parks was the AVCA Pacific Region Freshman of the Year.

Kevin Hambly, The Montag Family Director of Women's Volleyball, collected ACC Coach of the Year honors, and is now 228-47 (.829) in nine seasons on The Farm, mentoring 16 AVCA All-Americans to 32 awards and nine College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-Americans.

In three NCAA Tournament matches, Stanford out hit its opponents .280 to .244. The Cardinal also tallied 14.25 kills, 1.75 aces and 2.29 blocks per set in the postseason. Rubin paced the team with 3.25 kills, 3.00 digs and 3.63 points per set. Andrew hit .535 adding  2.17 kills per set, while Jordyn Harvey posted 3.17 kills on .317 hitting, 0.33 aces and a team-best 3.92 points per set.

The Cardinal played 16 matches against the 2025 NCAA Tournament field, posting an 11-5 record. Stanford was 6-2 against ACC teams in the tournament and picked up nonconference wins over Arizona, Florida, UCLA, Utah State and Utah Valley.

Stanford claimed a share of its first ACC title, and its 25th conference championship overall in 2025. The Cardinal has finished in the top 4 in conference play in 40 of the past 41 seasons, and the top 3 in 38 of 41 campaigns. In two seasons as a member of the ACC, Stanford is 57-10 overall and 35-5 in league play. Hambly now has six conference titles as the head coach of the Cardinal (2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2025).

Seven Cardinal were recognized with all-conference honors by the ACC. Andrew, Rubin and Spencer Etzler were named to the first team, while Harvey, Parks, Julia Blyashov and Erika Sayer landed on the second team. Etzler, Parks and Sayer were also selected to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Stanford now has 178 all-conference selections all-time, including honorable mention, and 51 all-freshman picks, including honorable mention.

Rubin was tabbed the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for a second straight season - the seventh time a Cardinal has earned conference scholar-athlete of the year honors in the past eight seasons, and the ninth overall. Additionally, Rubin was a CSC First Team Academic All-American, while Andrew earned a spot on the second team and Harvey on the third team. Stanford also produced seven All-ACC Academic Team picks.

The only returning All-American on the Cardinal roster in 2025, Rubin is just the 11th player in program history to register both 1,000 career kills and digs. She finishes her time on The Farm third on Stanford's career aces list with 151, which tops the list In the rally-scoring era to 25. She was selected 26th overall (Round 4, Pick 2 - San Diego Mojo) in the Major League Volleyball (MLV) draft. Rubin is the third Stanford player drafted to the MLV, joining Kendall Kipp (Round 3, Pick 1 – Columbus Fury) and Elena Oglivie (Round 4, Pick 5 – Grand Rapids Rise).
