No. 2 Stanford Falls to No. 1 UCLA in MPSF Semifinals

Cardinal’s hopes for back-to-back MPSF titles dashed by top-ranked UCLA in a hard-fought semifinal battle

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – No. 2/No. 1 seed Stanford fell, 3-1, to No. 1/No. 2 seed UCLA in the MPSF Championship semifinals on Friday, fighting back from three first-set defeats to push three courts to three-set decisions.

The Cardinal’s (36-4) loss to No. 1 UCLA ended its bid to defend its 2025 MPSF Championship title.

At the conclusion of the tournament, juniors Brooke Rockwell and Ruby Sorra were named to the 2026 MPSF Beach Volleyball All-Tournament Team.

UCLA carried an advantage into the second set on three of five courts, but Stanford struck first with a 21-16, 21-19 win by Sorra and Rockwell on court two. The Bruins evened the dual with a 21-14, 21-15 win on court three, and all other courts went to a deciding third set to determine the match outcome. Three-set victories by UCLA on courts one and five secured the match for the top-ranked team in the nation.

Stanford now awaits its NCAA Championship tournament seed and assignment, which will be announced Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
