The No. 24 Cardinal (20-10, 9-6) returns to Stanford Softball Stadium this weekend, hosting the Cardinal Classic II with No. 21 Washington and St. Mary's coming to The Farm.

Stanford is coming off an 11-day road trip that saw the team go 5-2 at North Carolina, East Carolina and Duke.


Spring Break Slugfest // Stanford is back home after a seven-game road trip over spring break, where the bats caught fire.

  • The Cardinal went 5-2 on the trip, scoring 66 runs. The scoring outburst averaged out at 9.43 per game, up from 6.52 in the previous 23 games.
  • Stanford entered the trip with 23 home runs in 23 games, and hit 13 home runs on the road trip.
    • Taryn Kern led the team with four home runs in the span.
  • The Card finished with a .395/.484/.668 slash line, a marked improvement from the team's .326/.403/.545 line entering the trip.
  • Six members of the Card hit better than .400 on the trip, led by Emily Jones (.591) and Kern (.524) eclipsing the .500 mark.
  • The trio of Kern, Jones and Kyra Chan combined to go 35-for-66 at the top of the Cardinal lineup, scoring 36 runs in the seven games.

Taryn Torching // Taryn Kern has been on a tear to start the season, doing it all for the Card in the leadoff spot.

  • Kern has posted a .429/.565/.978 slash line through 30 games, good for a staggering 1.543 OPS, all of which leads the Cardinal.
  • The slugging and on-base percentages are both top four in the ACC, and the batting average is 11th-best.
  • The leadoff hitter leads the team in runs scored with 44, as well as RBI with 31 and is tied for the lead in doubles with 11.
  • Kern averages 1.47 runs scored per game, the second-best in the ACC and eighth-best in the country.
  • The 44 total runs are the third-most in the ACC, and 20th in the NCAA.
  • Her 1.03 RBI per game are the 13th-most in the ACC.
  • Including her freshman season at Indiana, Kern's 60 home runs are the fourth-most in the country among active players.
  • Again including her numbers from Indiana, Kern leads all active DI players in both walks (167) and hit by pitch (68).

EJ Heating Up // Emily Jones has been on a hot streak as of late, currently riding a 10-game hitting streak. The streak has come over the last 11 games, with Jones missing last Friday's game at Duke due to injury.

  • The senior leads the team in batting average over the span at a .556 clip, and even with a game missed her 20 runs still lead the team.
  • Jones is second on the team in total bases in the span with 33 to narrowly trail Kern's 35.
  • Jones has scored 16 runs and stolen five bases in the span.

The Last Dance // Kern and Kyra Chan have both picked it up at the plate in their senior seasons, driving the Cardinal offense.

  • Kern's .429 batting average is up from .348 last season, while Chan's .415 clip is up from .398 last season.

Keeping up With Kyra // Chan has been one of the Cardinal's most consistend hitters.

  • Chan is slashing .415/.496/.978 for a 1.219 OPS. All four marks are second-most on the team.
  • The senior is tied for the team hits lead with 32.
  • Chan also sits second on the team in runs scored (30) and home runs (5), and is tied for third in RBI with 23.

Dominant Top of the Lineup Card // Kern, Jones and Chan have been a mainstay at the top of the Cardinal lineup, and have been massive contributors to the team's run production.

  • The trio is hitting a combined 113-for-270 for a .419 clip, scoring 102 of the team's 216 runs on the season.
  • Despite being atop the order, the trio has still driven in 71 runs on the year.
  • The top of the lineup has set the middle of the order up for success behind them, drawing 46 walks to 30 strikeouts.
  • Once on the bases, the three players are a perfect 14-14 in steal attempts.
