For the second time this season, Ebuka Okorie has earned Rookie of the Week honors from the ACC. Okorie shares the Feb. 9 honor with North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson.
Posting a Stanford freshman record 40 points against Georgia Tech, breaking his own record for the second time, Okorie became the first Stanford player with a 40-point game since Casey Jacobsen scored 41 on Feb. 7, 2002 vs. Oregon, and Okorie’s performance is the ninth in program history with at least 40 points. He is just the fifth freshman in ACC history to score 40 points in a game, joining Cooper Flagg, Tyler Hansbrough, Harrison Barnes and Olivier Hanlan, and it was his fifth game this season with at least 30 points, passing Duke’s Cameron Boozer for the most in the ACC.
Okorie also added 18 points against then No. 20/19 Clemson, and together averaged 29.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game during the two-game homestand.
Okorie was also honored as the National Freshman of the Week from the NCAA's Andy Katz.
Stanford men’s basketball continues its conference schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Boston College. The 6 p.m. PT (9 p.m. ET) tip will air on ESPNU.
