Stanford drops to 3-8 overall

STANFORD, Calif. – Held to .164 hitting, No. 18 Stanford fell in straight sets to No. 3 Hawaii, 25-17, 25-16, 25-13, Saturday, in Maples Pavilion.

Stanford drops to 3-8 overall, while Hawaii, which hit .442 for the match, improved to 12-1 on the season. The Cardinal finished with 25 kills, 20 digs, 5.0 blocks and an ace.

The Cardinal began the match with a new lineup, starting Theo Snoey at opposite and moving Moses Wagner to the middle. Snoey led the team with eight kills, four digs and two blocks, while Wagner posted two kills, two digs and three blocks.

Freshman Jacob Little-Phillips set the offense with 22 assists to go with two digs and a kill. Sophomore libero Evan Porter was one of three Cardinal players with a team-high four digs.

Cardinal outside hitters Alex Rottman and Erik Ask each notched four kills. Rottman added three digs, an ace, a block and an assist, while Ask had four digs and a block.

Middle blocker Luke McFall chipped in with six kills, two blocks and a dig. Senior Ryan DuRoss and freshman Luke Morrison were used as serving subs for the Cardinal.

Hawaii was led by opposite Kainoa Wade, who hit 737 with a match-high 15 kills on 19 swings with just one miscue. Outside hitter Louis Sakanoko added 12 kills, four blocks, two digs and three assists.

Stanford resumes MPSF play next week, travelling to Concordia on Friday and Saturday.
