SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Sein Myoung clinched her first match for Stanford to lead the No. 22 Cardinal to a 4-3 victory at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon.
Playing at No. 5, Myoung won the first set 6-4 and serving up 6-5 in the second before the Gauchos’ My-Anh Holmes fought back to win a tiebreak and force a deciding third. Myoung took it 6-3 and moved to 4-1 in three-set matches this season.
The Cardinal was down after doubles but moved back in front in singles following wins by its ranked freshmen on the top two courts. Alyssa Ahn beat Isabella Wong 6-4, 6-4 and Monika Ekstrand picked up the fourth ranked win of her young career with a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over No. 100 Ekua Youri at the top spot.
Playing on court six, Emma Sun lost the first set 6-1, but raced back to take the next two 7-5, 6-1 and snap a personal five-match losing streak.
Stanford is no 20-1 all-time against the Gauchos and has won three straight.
The Cardinal is back in action when it begins ACC play next weekend, hosting Georgia Tech Clemson on Friday and Saturday.
