FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 10 Stanford finished third at the Metroplex Challenge with a team total of 196.400 Saturday evening at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
No. 6 Georgia won the quad meet with a score of 197.650, followed by No. 20 California with 196.875. No. 42 Air Force placed fourth with a total of 195.750.
The Cardinal opened on vault, scoring 48.925, led by senior Taralyn Nguyen’s 9.850 in the fifth spot of the lineup. Fellow senior Anna Roberts scored 9.800 in the anchor position, while sophomore Ui Soma and freshman Summer Gronski each earned scores of 9.775. Sophomore Jaime Dugan rounded out the scoring with a 9.725 in the second slot.
After the first rotation, Georgia led with 49.475 on beam, followed by California with 49.150 on bars, Air Force with 49.000 on floor, and Stanford in fourth with 48.925 on vault.
Stanford moved to bars and added a team total of 49.050, led by anchor Soma’s 9.925. Roberts posted 9.900 in the fourth position, while redshirt freshman Levi Jung-Ruivivar led off with 9.800. Dugan contributed 9.750 in the second slot, and Bărbosu added 9.675 up fifth.
At the halfway mark, Stanford had a team total of 97.975. Georgia led with 98.800, while California totaled 98.425 and Air Force recorded 98.150.
On beam, Stanford recorded a team score of 48.975 guided by three scores of 9.900 or better. Senior Claire Dean led off with a season-best 9.925, setting the tone for the rotation. Junior Temple Landry added 9.850, followed by scores of 9.900 from both Roberts and Bărbosu. Soma scored 9.400 in the anchor position for Stanford.
After three rotations, Georgia led with a total of 148.175, while California had 147.700 and both Air Force and Stanford tallied 146.950.
Stanford concluded the meet with its best rotation of the evening, scoring 49.450 on floor, the highest floor total of any team in the quad meet. Bărbosu set a new career-best in the anchor position, posting a 9.950. Roberts added 9.900 in fifth, while both Jung-Ruivivar and Robinson scored 9.875, and sophomore Alana Walker recorded 9.850 in the second position.
The Cardinal continues its three-week road swing Feb. 21, taking on No. 22 North Carolina in Raleigh. The battle between the Cardinal and Wolfpack is set for a 1 p.m. PT start and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
