Men's Tennis Welcomes UCLA, USC

Stanford wraps up its six-match homestand with a pair of ranked battles

  • 3 Stanford men’s tennis wraps up its six-match homestand to open the spring slate with visits from No. 14 UCLA on Saturday, Jan. 31 and No. 22 USC on Sunday, Feb. 1. Both matches will begin at noon at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion.
  • Stanford enters the matches ranked No. 3 in the country, marking the program's highest ranking since March 27, 2018. Should the Cardinal rise to No. 2 in the ITA rankings, it would mark the highest since March 13, 2018. Two players were ranked in singles at the end of the fall: Alex Chang (67) and Nico Godsick (78), and, the Cardinal has two ranked doubles pairs: Godsick/Hudson Rivera (39) and Chang/Alex Razeghi (40).
  • Stanford men's tennis hosted ITA Kickoff Weekend from Jan. 23-24, defeating Utah (4-1) and Rice (4-0) to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Cardinal was drawn into the Dallas section of the bracket, along with Arizona State, Clemson, Florida, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Virginia and host SMU. The full draw for the event will be announced at a later date, with opening matches set for Feb. 13.
  • The Cardinal began its spring campaign with the first two of six consecutive battles at home, posting wins over Saint Mary's and San Diego State at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion. Alex Chang and Alex Razeghi each posted 2-0 weeks in singles, while the doubles tandems of Razeghi and Hudson Rivera and Jagger Leach and Mark Krupkin were also 2-0.
  • Jagger Leach was named the ACC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 20 for his performances against the Gaels and Aztecs. Leach earned his first-career singles victory against San Diego State, and the award is the first in the category for Stanford since joining the ACC.
  • Chang leads the team with 10 singles wins this season, and has clinched three of four matches, while Razeghi ranks second with six singles victories. The tandem of Chang and Razeghi paces the Cardinal with six doubles wins while the duos of Hudson Rivera and Nico Godsick and Mark Krupkin and Jagger Leach have posted three. The doubles pair of Chang and Razeghi reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championship in November.
  • In a weekend with two former Pac-12 rivals, Stanford is 65-75 all-time against UCLA and 69-79 against USC. Stanford tallied its first sweep of USC and UCLA a year ago since 2022 and its first road sweep since 2009.
  • The Cardinal finished a remarkable season in 2024-25, going 26-6 overall while winning an ACC Championship in its first season in the conference and advancing to the national semifinals of the NCAA Championships and the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
  • Stanford returns seven players from last season's roster, including ITA All-American Samir Banerjee and four additional players that won at last nine singles matches last season. The Cardinal added a trio of strong newcomers in Jagger Leach, the top-rated recruit in the country per Tennis Recruiting Network, five-star signee Mark Krupkin and California transfer Alex Chang, who was an All-Pac-12 second team honoree for the Golden Bears in 2024.
  • The Cardinal has had success on the professional level, notably with Nishesh Basavareddy, Tristan Boyer and Arthur Fery in recent years. All three have earned grand slam wins, including second round Australian Open appearances in 2026 from Basavareddy and Fery. Boyer has reached the second round of the US Open and the Australian Open, while Fery also reached the second round in singles at Wimbledon in 2025, beating the world No. 20 player Alexei Popyrin, and the third round in doubles at Wimbledon in 2024.
  • Stanford's current student-athletes have also seen widespread success in ITF Futures and ATP Challenger tournaments, with the program earning 12 ITF futures championships in the summer of 2025, including eight titles from returning players.
  • Paul Goldstein is in his 12th season as the Taube Family Director of Men's Tennis. Goldstein’s teams have posted a 196-79 record with a national ranking and a berth in the NCAA Championships in each of his seasons at the helm.
