Trio to Join Cardinal in 2026

Stanford inks a mix of three highly-touted recruits from the U.S. and Italy

STANFORD, Calif. — Knowles Family Director of Men’s Golf Conrad Ray has announced a trio of additions to the Stanford men’s golf program on Wednesday with the signing of Giovanni Binaghi, Carlo Roman and Judd Jirovsky in preparation for the 2026-27 season.

Giovanni Binaghi ● Milan, Italy ● Collegio San Carlo

Binaghi plans to arrive on The Farm as one of the most sought after rising golf talents in Italy. Currently ranked 3rd in the U18 age group in his home country, Binaghi featured on the European squad’s home win in the 2023 Junior Ryder Cup over the United States in Rome and was a U12, U14 and U16 Italian Champion. Binaghi owns one tournament win, earning the crown at the 2024 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley by virtue of an 8-under final round to win by two shots. He currently owns 6 top-10 finishes in 38 counted events in his junior golf career.

“Giovanni brings a winning pedigree, tremendous physical talent and natural leadership to our program and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Cardinal family,” coach Ray said. “Giovanni understands what it takes to excel at the highest level and we are confident his championship experience and maturity will translate seamlessly to success on The Farm.”

Carlo Roman ● Verona, Italy ● Liceo Ginnasio Statale “Scipione Maffei”

Roman comes to The Golden State alongside his fellow countrymen in Binaghi. Currently ranked just ahead of Binaghi at 2nd in Italy’s U18 age group, Roman brings a plethora of championship experience to The Farm including most recently a second-place finish at the 2025 Italian U18 Stroke Play Championship. A member of the Italian National Team since he was 15 years old, Roman led Italy to a European Team Boys Championship in 2025 and represented Italy in the European Young Masters in 2024. With two wins under his amateur belt, Roman has earned 12 top-10 finishes in 36 counted events in his career.

“Carlo combines exceptional talent with infectious energy and has established himself as one of Europe's premier amateur players, " said Ray. “We’re excited to watch him bring that elite skill set to Stanford, where we believe his competitive fire and technical excellence will make an immediate impact on our program.”

Judd Jirovsky ● Grundy Center, Iowa ● Grundy Center High School

Jirovsky heads to The Farm as a multi-faceted student-athlete from Iowa. A five-sport athlete at Grundy Center High School, Jirovsky helped lead the golf program to a 2A State Championship while claiming the individual state championship in 2023 before serving as the 2A Individual State Runner-Up and Co-Ed Team State Champion in 2025.

Jirovsky is a Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-State Pitcher in baseball, a three-time state medalist and 2025 Spring Medley Relay Champion in track and field, a two-time state qualifier and First Team All-Conference in basketball and is hoping to claim his fourth state championship in football in two weeks. The 2024 Class 1A Mr. Iowa Football recipient is also  the State of Iowa 36 hole record holder of 131 strokes (63, 68, at 11-under).

“Judd epitomizes what it means to be both an elite athlete and a natural team leader and we are eager to see him make his mark on the program,” said Ray. “In college golf, we’ve learned that the most successful players aren’t always the highest-ranked juniors - they’re the ones who arrive with the work ethic, character and coachability to elevate their game at the collegiate level. Judd possesses all of these qualities and his potential for growth is huge.”
