SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Stanford wrapped up the 2025 fall slate this weekend, winning the PCCSC Open Fall Championship but falling at the ICSA Match Race Championship.
“The Match Race result clearly wasn’t what our team set out to achieve in St. Petersburg," said head coach Chris Klevan. "However, it is a reminder for our entire team that results cannot come without hard work. And that the hill we need to climb, from September to May, is quite steep. Those here who have won championships, and lost them, know that well. However, in order to get to where we need to be, everyone has to embrace the challenge and pursue it as one unit. Success will not come to us on its own.”
Stanford finished 10th in the 10-team regatta.
“To win the PCCSC conference at the Open Champs is a critical step towards our future. To do so, at Santa Barbara amid miserable conditions is even better," said Klevan. "It is easy to hold your head up with gumption when the sun is shining and the wind is at your back. It takes a champion to do so, along with their teammates through the storm.”
The Cardinal won in dominant fashion, finishing well ahead of the field with 22 points. The A boat of Reade Decker and Abby Baird finished second with 13 points. The B boat of Freddie Parkin and Piper Blackband, and the C boat of Samara Walshe and Kate Myles each finished first with five and four points, respectively.
The B and C boats combined to finish first in seven of eight races, including a perfect four wins in four tries for the C boat.
The two-regatta weekend concludes the Cardinal's fall 2025 schedule.
