PCCSC Women's Fall Title

Card sweeps trio of regattas

STANFORD, Calif. – The Cardinal picked up a title this weekend, winning the PCCSC Women's Fall Championship. The strong weekend also saw Stanford take first at the Nickerson Trophy and the Top-9 Fall Invite

"We took care of business this weekend sailing deep into our bench. The win was a group effort – it’s fun to see our seniors, ladies who have won many national championships now, helping the team of the future," head coach Chris Klevan said of the PCCSC competition. "Creating that continuity between generations is the easiest way to ensure future success.”

The Card took first with 83 points in the nine-team regatta. The A boat of Ellie and Kit Harned, as well as Callie Hammond, finished third with 55 points and a pair of first-place finishes. The B boat saw Sophie Fisher, Abby Bair, Ava Cornell and Alexandra Jones rotate in to finish first with eight first-place finishes in 14 tries.

Meanwhile, Stanford finished first at the Nickerson Trophy with 86 points.

“The freshmen are champs this weekend due to superior boat speed and by sailing conservatively in a very high risk venue," said assistant coach Shawn Harvey. "Consistency was a focus.”

Both boats finished first in the 14 team competition, with 43 points each. The A boat featured Freddie Parkin and Kate Myles, winning five of 14 races. The B boat of Griggs Diemar and Avery Baldwin won four of 14 races.

Rounding out the weekend, Stanford finished first at the Top-9 Fall Invite with 155 points. The A boat featured Thomas Whidden and Lucas Woodworth rotating at skipper and Amiya Stroumza at crew, finishing second with 65 points. The boat took first place in five of 14 races.

The B boat finished fifth with 90 points, as Dylan Sih, Caroline Geiger and Piper Blackband finished in the top three five times.

Next weekend the Card has a pair of regattas, competing in the ICSA Singlehanded Championships and the West Coast Championships.
