Card Rolls Past Hawaii

Rubin registers third double-double of the season

STANFORD, Calif. – Meeting for the first time since 2012, No 4 Stanford swept Hawaii, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20, Friday, at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (7-2) hit .262 while holding Hawaii (4-5) to a .179 clip. The Cardinal finished with a season-high 64 digs, three aces and 4.0 blocks. It was Stanford’s first win over Hawaii at home since 1997.

Senior Elia Rubin led all players with 16 kills on .382 hitting and 13 digs for her team-best third double-double of the year. Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew registered a career-high 12 kills on a season-best .647 attack percentage.

Setter Logan Parks also turned in the first double-double of her career, posting 36 assists and a career-high 15 digs to go with three kills and two blocks. Libero Spencer Etzler collected a career and match-high 16 digs to go with a career-best five assists and two aces.

Reigning ACC Freshman of the Week Erika Sayer tallied nine kills and a team-high four blocks. Opposite Jordyn Harvey added six kills, nine digs and two blocks, while Ipar Kurt had five kills and three digs.

Defensive specialist Koko Kirsch matched her career-high with two aces. Senior Anna Pringle chipped in with five digs and two assists. Sophomore Taylor Yu came off the bench in the second and third sets and recorded two assists.

Hawaii was led by Cha’lei Reid’s 10 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Outside hitter Stella Adeyemi add eight kills, 11 digs and two blocks.

Stanford is back in action on Saturday against Texas State. First serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. from Maples Pavilion following UCLA versus Hawaii at 2 p.m.
