Stanford Falls at Nebraska

Cardinal 1-1 in AVCA First Serve Showcase

LINCOLN, Neb. – No. 6 Stanford fell in straight sets at No. 1 Nebraska, 25-13, 25-19, 25-14, Sunday, at the AVCA First Serve Showcase at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Stanford (1-1) was held to .094 hitting, while Nebraska (2-0) posted a .385 clip. The Huskers out blocked the Cardinal, 9.0 to 2.0 and held a 56-35 advantage in digs. Nebraska has won three straight against the Cardinal, which leads the all-time series 10-9.

Senior Elia Rubin led Stanford with eight kills and seven digs, while redshirt sophomore Ipar Kurt added seven kills and a dig.

Opposite Jordyn Harvey finished with four kills, three digs and an assist, while middle blocker Lizzy Andrew chipped in with four kills on .308 hitting, a block and her first collegiate ace.

Freshman middle blocker Erika Sayer registered five kills and a block, while freshman libero Spencer Etzler had a match-high 15 digs. She is averaging 4.29 digs per set in her first two collegiate matches.

Sophomore setter Taylor Yu recorded 15 assists and four digs, while freshman setter/opposite Logan Parks totaled 10 assists, two kills, three digs and two blocks.

Nebraska had three players tally double-digit kills, led by Allie Sczech’s match-high 12. Middle blocker Rebekah Allick turned in 11 kills on .600 hitting and five blocks, while outside hitter Harper Murray added 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks.

Stanford remains on the road next week, traveling to Long Beach State on Friday. The Cardinal also faces Oregon State on Saturday at Walter Pyramid.
