The Cardinal will compete for its sixth Commissioner's Cup this weekend

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford lightweight rowing will compete for the program's sixth Commissioner's Cup this weekend, as the Cardinal closes out the 2024-25 season at the IRA Championships on May 31-June 1 in Camden, New Jersey.

STANFORD IN THE RANKINGS » Stanford heads to the IRA Championships ranked in the top 5 in all three events, including a No. 2 ranking in the Varsity 4+. The Cardinal also ranks third in the double and fourth in the varsity eight. 

LAST TIME OUT » Stanford lights earned a trio of top-5 finishes, including a fourth-place effort in the varsity eight at the Women's Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond. The 8+ crossed the finish line in fourth with a 7:00.85 time, behind Princeton, Radcliffe, and Boston. The Varsity Four, raced by Kate Mettauer, Campbell McClellanSophia RamarajuAnnie Cloud, and Maddy Dodge, reeled off a fifth-place effort with an 8:13.19. Stanford also finished fifth in the double, with the tandem of Zadie Diniz and Channing Brook clocking an 8:45.227. 

V8+ BESTS THE BADGERS » The Stanford lights hosted its first race day of the spring on Saturday afternoon, as the third-ranked varsity eight boat tallied a victory over the Badgers. The 8+ boat crossed the finish line at 6:47.94, coming in 17.88 seconds ahead of Wisconsin (7:05.82). Competition began with the varsity four as Wisconsin secured the victory with a time of 7:49.92, followed by a 7:59.61 time from the Cardinal four. The Badgers also won the double by clocking an 8:03.12, 19 seconds ahead of Stanford (8:22.12).

HEAD OF THE CHARLES » The Cardinal lights competed in just one event in the fall, with the varsity 8+ boat finishing seventh at the Head of the Charles in Boston. Freshman Campbell McClellan made her collegiate debut in the no. 1 seat, joining a boat that included all four returners from last season’s champion varsity 4+ boat.

RESURGENCE AT IRA'S » Stanford's varsity 4+ boat took home a national championship last June, part of a Cardinal effort that finished second in the Commissioner's Cup standings at the IRA Championships. Four of the five members of the 4+ boat return for the 2024-25 season.

ALL-AMERICAN RETURNER » Sophomore Grace Padula is back after a breakout fall campaign, earning CRCA All-American honors in her first season on The Farm.

YEAR TWO FOR HOUSTON » Lizzy Houston enters her second season at the helm of the Cardinal lights, looking to build on last season's success. Stanford came within a point of Princeton for the top spot in fall's Commissioner's Cup standings.
