SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Stanford senior Teagan Zwaanstra continued her indoor success by opening the outdoor track and field season with a victory at the Hornet Invitational on Saturday.
Zwaanstra, an Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships finalist in the 60 meters, captured the 100 at Hornet Stadium in a personal-record 11.46 seconds. Her previous bests were a wind-aided 11.68 and a wind-legal 11.77.
Zwaanstra now takes the No. 9 spot on Stanford’s all-time list, knocking Carissa Levingston (11.51 in 2010) out of the Top 10.
Racing in the second of 10 sections, Zwaanstra won her section by 0.14 and exceeded the 11.47 by Deajah Stevens (unattached) from Section 1 – the supposed fastest section – by 0.01.
It was the second victory of 2025 for Zwaanstra, who won the 60 at the UW Indoor Preview, and the first outdoor sprint victory of her collegiate career. It comes under veteran sprints coach Rahn Sheffield, in his first season at Stanford.
She was joined by men’s shot putter Sam Liokumovich as Stanford’s winners in the two-day meet. Liokumovich, competing in the third and final flight, took over the lead on his first throw – 59-0 (17.98 meters), which was the winning toss.
Teammate Garin Gross was ninth with a personal best 50-10 (15.49).
Overall, 20 Stanford athletes combined for seven personal bests. Among the highlights were three Stanford PBs in the same event – the women’s 400 hurdles on Friday. Sevilla Duran ran 1:01.49, Madison Romain ran 1:02.86, and Sara Rivas ran 1:05.00.
On Saturday, Gabriel Ajaegbu (48.95) and John Kroeger (49.30) each ran personal bests in the men’s 400.
