HONOLULU – No. 5 Stanford beach volleyball started its 2025 season with two closely contested matches against top-ten opponents, falling 3-2 to both No. 7 LMU and No. 2 TCU on Queen’s Beach at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic.
Stanford opened up its day on Queen’s Beach against No. 7 LMU, falling 3-2 in a back-and-forth battle with the Lions. LMU took the match's first point with a 21-10, 21-17 victory on court five, but the Cardinal quickly responded with a dominant 21-14, 21-16 win on court one. With the match tied, the Lions added their second point with a 21-18, 21-17 win on court two over Wilson/Bell. LMU secured the opening-day victory with a 21-17, 21-17 victory on court four. The Cardinal’s Kelly Belardi/Avery Jackson earned the team’s other point of the match with a 28-26, 18-21, 15-10 three-set win on court three.
The Cardinal then battled No. 2 TCU, falling to the Horned Frogs by the same score as the earlier match. TCU kicked off scoring with a 21-17, 21-10 victory on court one, but Stanford fought back with a 21-13, 21-14 victory on court four. All tied at one point a piece, the Horned Frogs took the battles on courts five and two to clinch the victory. Belardi and Jackson added Stanford’s second point with a 24-22, 21-16 win on court three.
Stanford continues play at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic tomorrow, taking on No. 1 USC at 11:45 a.m. PT and No. 3 UCLA at 4:45 p.m. PT. Both matches will have live scoring available on Statbroadcast.
