STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford claimed a perfect team race victory while Grace Austin and John Kirkpatrick competed this weekend in the College Sailing Singlehanded Nationals. Austin finished eighth in a field of 18 sailors while Kirkpatrick took 17th.
The two individual competitors began on Saturday with comfortable conditions and solid wind under 20 knots. There were a good number of puffs and shifts as well as some current and waves, which allowed for a thorough test of skills.
Austin found her footing as the regatta went on, finishing multiple races in the top seven. Her efforts were good for eighth overall and 129 points. Kirkpatrick ended the event with 187 points.
Back in California, Stanford captured a perfect 13-0 record in Santa Barbara at the Gaucho Fall Team Race.
Eight Cardinal athletes raced with Jack Parkin, Telis Athanasopoulos Yogo, Hannah Freeman, and Justin Lim lining up as Skippers and Abigail Tindall, Patricia Gerli, Gwendolyn Donahue, and Mathew Hogan as crew.
Stanford faced three teams for UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, and Cal Maritime during the regatta. Over the three rounds of the regatta, Stanford captured seven 1-2-3 sweeps enroute to an undefeated result.
The Cardinal is back in action at the Fall Pacific Coast Championship and the ICSA Match Race National Championship on Nov. 13 and 14.
