Fifth in Wine Country

NAPA, Calif. – Stanford sits fifth after Sunday's first round of the Silverado Showdown at Silverado Resort and Spa.
 
Playing in the final regular-season tournament of the year, the No. 3 Cardinal amassed a best four-out-of-five score of 6-over 294 on the North Course. San Jose State leads the 18-team, 54-hole hole event at 1-over 289.
 
Paired with Northwestern and Iowa State, Stanford started on the back nine and was sparked by freshman Calista Reyes, who posted a 2-under 34 and finished with a 1-under 71, matching her best score in relation to par. She made five birdies and is tied for third in the individual competition.
 
Sophomore Kelsey Zeng fashioned four birdies and shot a 1-over 73, earning a share of 15th place. Sophomore Mika Liu and junior Ziyi Wang added 75's and are tied for 33rd, while freshman Aline Krauter had 79 and is tied for 76th.  
 
The individual co-leaders are Stephanie Lau and Brooke Riley of Northwestern, who fired 70's.

Junior All-Americans Andrea Lee and Albane Valenzuela are not competing. Lee just returned from playing in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur, where she tied for 26th on Saturday. Valenzuela was one of two amateurs to make the cut in the ANA Inspiration, the LPGA Tour's first major championship of the year, and tied for 66th on Sunday.
