Montgomery was Stanford's all-time winningest coach, compiling a 393-167 record in 18 seasons at the helm from 1987-2004. He directed the Cardinal to the postseason 16 times (12 NCAA, four NIT), won the 1991 NIT title, and led Stanford to three 30-win seasons, including a program-best 31-3 mark in 2000-01. Under his guidance, Stanford advanced to the NCAA Tournament, a school-record 10 consecutive times. Iin 1997-98, Stanford reached the NCAA Final Four for the first time in 56 years. Following the 1999-00 campaign, Montgomery was named the Naismith and Basketball Times Coach of the Year. He is a four-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year (1999, 2000, 2003, 2004) and was named Sports Illustrated Coach of the Year and winner of the John R. Wooden "Legends of Coaching" award following the 2003-04 campaign. | |||||||||||
