STANFORD, Calif.- Impressive tournament runs by a pair of Stanford duos came to an end on Sunday afternoon at the 124th annual Pacific Coast Doubles tournament in La Jolla, Calif.
USC's Max De Vroome and Eric Johnson downed Maciek Romanowicz and Robert Stineman 6-0, 6-3 in one semifinal, while UCLA's Marcos Giron and Dennis Novikov (UCLA) outlasted Denis Lin and John Morrissey 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Lin and Morrissey were particularly dominant through their first five matches, dropping a combined 15 games over their first five matches and knocking off the event's No. 1 duo.
Romanowicz and Stineman were equally impressive, defeating the tournament's No. 2 team along the way.
Stanford was seeking its third consecutive doubles title at the event, after Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher captured the crown each of the last two seasons.
The tournament included players from 19 schools, in addition to teaching professionals, juniors, college coaches, former tour players and independent entrants competing in the 128-team draw.
