Columbus, Ohio - Stanford women's lacrosse (3-0) traveled to Columbus, Ohio today and earned an 11-10 victory over the 11th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (0-1). The Cardinal was down 5-4 at the half, but went on a 6-0 run in the second half to secure the victory.
Sophomore Kelsey Twist tallied a team-leading three goals and two assists to push the Cardinal past the Buckeyes. Stanford closed out the first half with three unanswered goals, including two by sophomore Nina Pantano to cut the Cardinal deficit to one heading into the break.
Ohio State opened the second half with a 4-1 scoring drive in the first five minutes, but then could not find the net for the next 23 minutes. The Cardinal dropped in six straight goals to take the 11-9 edge, but the Buckeyes managed one last goal with just under two minutes left to reach the final 11-10 score. In goal, Stanford junior Christina Saikus collected 11 saves in her first start of the season.
Stanford returns to The Farm for a 4 p.m. match versus Denver at Maloney Field on Sunday, March 2nd.
