Clear Bag Policy
Stanford has implemented a clear bag policy to provide a safer environment for the public and expedite fan entry into Stanford Stadium and Maples Pavilion. This policy does not change what you can bring in, only how it can be brought into the facility. Fans may continue to bring in items such as blankets, jackets, permitted food and beverages. The policy limits the size and types of bags permitted. Items must be carried or fit into a permissible bag. Anyone possessing prohibited items will be asked to return them to their vehicle, take them to one of our bag check* stations or dispose of them at the gate.
* All approved bags are subject to inspection upon entry and are subject to additional inspections within the stadium.
* Complimentary bag checks will be offered to fans attending football and basketball games.
Basketball Bag Checks: Guests with bags or items that do not satisfy the bag policy can bring them to the complimentary bag check stations located on the lawn along the west side of Maples Pavilion (along Campus Drive). The bag check-in station is open one hour before game time and close 30 minutes after the conclusion of the event.
FAQs
Why is this policy being adopted?
• In an effort to improve fan safety, Stanford Athletics is implementing a bag policy for all ticketed events at Stanford Stadium and Maples Pavilion beginning in 2016. This policy limits the size and types of bags that are permitted inside the stadium, but is not a restriction on many of the items that fans have brought into the stadium in the past. This policy will enhance safety at our games as a clear bag is easily and quickly searched.
Will clear bags be available through Stanford or on the day of the event?
• There are a variety of options. All football season ticket members (one per account) should receive one 12x12x6" clear plastic bag prior to the start of the season. We'll also be distributing simple clear bags at Guest Services tents located of Stanford Stadium prior to the first three games of the season. The Stanford Bookstore and Athletics Shop will sell clear bags before and on game day. Alternatively, we suggest that you use a one-gallon clear Ziploc bag.
What happens if I show up at the entrance with a bag that is not permitted?
• Fans with a prohibited bag will not be permitted inside the stadium. Fans with prohibited bags will need to return their bags to their vehicle, and transfer their belongings to an approved clear plastic bag before entering the athletic venue.
Fans will also have the option to bring their items to a complimentary bag check station. Guests with bags or items that do not satisfy the bag policy can bring them to one of the Stadium's complimentary bag check stations.
During football games and events at Stanford Stadium, these bag check-in stations are located at Cagan Stadium and Cobb Track. The bag check-in stations open two hours before game time and close one hour after the conclusion of the event.
What types of bags are permitted into Stanford Stadium and Maples Pavilion?
• Approved bags include clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags that do not exceed 12"x6"x12"; one-gallon clear, re-sealable plastic storage bags; small clutch bags no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" (approximately the size of a hand) with or without a handle or strap. Prohibited bags include but are not limited to purses, backpacks, binocular cases, camera cases, fanny packs, luggage, seat cushions with a zipper, any bag larger than the permissible size, and any bag that is not clear.
How many bags can each person bring into the venue?
• Each person is allowed one (1) clear plastic bag and one (1) small clutch. The clear bag must be no larger than 12"x6"x12", made of clear PVC vinyl, or a one-gallon Ziploc bag. The small clutch allows privacy for small personal items and will also be searched
Have the Permitted and Prohibited Items changed as well with this new bag policy?
• No. Fans are encouraged to bring only necessary items to football games. All guests and items are subject to search. Any item not on the Permitted Items List will not be allowed into Stanford Stadium or Maples Pavilion unless otherwise approved and properly inspected. Special considerations will be made for guests with special medical needs and individuals caring for infants.
Can I carry cameras, binoculars, phones, or tablets separately from what I put in a clear bag?
• Yes. We are limiting only the type of bags carried into the stadium, not items that you normally bring to a game. Fans can continue to carry permitted items in their pockets or hands such as keys, phones, wallets, blankets, etc., if you choose not to put them in a clear bag or clutch. In addition you can carry a blanket over your arms, and binoculars and/or camera around your neck or in your hands without the case. You can use the clear bag and clutch to carry other items. Small cameras, under 6" without cases, are permitted. Tripods are not permitted.
Are seat cushions allowed to be carried into Stanford Stadium or Maples Pavilion?
• Yes, only approved seat cushions that do not have pockets or zippers may be carried into the facility.
Are blankets in cold weather allowed?
• Yes. Fans are able to bring blankets by carrying them over your arm or shoulder.
Are all purses prohibited?
• No. Small clutch purses (no larger than 4.5"x6.5"), with or without a handle or strap, are permitted along with a clear tote bag or one-gallon plastic bag.
If I have certain medical items/equipment that I need to bring into the venue what do I do?
• Fans with medically necessary items may enter at any gate/entrance but will be subject to additional screening. Supervisors at each entrance will assist.
Are diaper bags allowed?
• Diaper bags are permitted, but will be subject to screening. You must have the infant(s) present for which the diaper bag is being carried when the diaper bag is screened.
